Marinara sauce is the nectar of the gods, I’m pretty sure.
I’ve been making my own lately and using it for everything. Risotto, pasta, sandwiches, dipping sauce.
I had some Mega Meatballs, and some fresh homemade bread – and the result was heavenly to behold! And even better to eat.
I had made some of my bread into flat baguettes the other day, so I sliced one in half and started piling on my toppings.
Meatballs, mozzarella cheese, marinara sauce.
I now have marinara sauce stored in my fridge, ready for the next time I have a craving for it. Bliss!
- 1 15 oz can tomato puree
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes
- 1/4 cup parmesan cheese
- italian herbs and spices
- diced garlic
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Pour puree into medium saucepan and heat over low heat.
- In microwave, heat cherry tomatoes (covered) for 1 minute, until they burst
- Add to puree
- Add cheese, herbs, spices and garlic to taste (I add about a tbsp of an Italian herb mix, and 1/2 tsp diced garlic)
- Once the puree is warm through, add the olive oil and mix well. Remove from heat.
And voila! Marinara!
Add 1/4 cup crumbled sausage to your cherry tomatoes before you stick them in the microwave. Heat as before, and add to puree.
Trust me – this is delicious.
