Why The Blogging Life Chose Me

You would not believe the number of times I get the question: “So, what do you do?”

We all get this question. It’s an old, reliable conversation starter when you’re meeting new people and the conversation starts to lag. I usually get it right after I’ve finished explaining why my husband’s job keeps us away from home so often. Suddenly it occurs to people that I seem to have a lot of time to just up and follow my husband off to who-knows-where.

I’m lucky enough to have an opportunity to build my business and become self-employed, but as soon as I say “I’m in Network Marketing and Blogging”,  I see eyes glaze over. Or, I get a confused “Why?”

Well, I’ll tell you why.

And let me tell you, I didn’t choose the blogging life, the blogging life chose me.

I grew up in a home with two working parents, except my mother was self employed as a Nutritional Consultant and worked from home because she made raising her six children her priority. I’ve always admired her for her work ethic, and I will be forever grateful that I always had a mother to come home to after school. I know that when I have children of my own, I want to be there for them like my mother was there for me.

Unfortunately, today’s economy is not like it was when I was a kid, and in order to have a comfortable lifestyle without debt, the modern family needs to be making two incomes. In order to fulfil my wish to be a stay at home mom, I needed to find a career that allowed me to work from home. Now, there are countless jobs that allow for this, and all of them are very worthwhile, but I really hate having to ask for permission to use the bathroom. Or if I need to stop to switch out the loads, or cook dinner.

In short, the idea of being my own boss is incredibly attractive, and it just so happens to be one of the things that blogging  and network marking offer.

Blogging and network marketing are both industries that are becoming more and more common in our society because of the freedom they offer, as more people are realising that they don’t want to spend their lives slaving away for someone else’s benefit when they could be living their own lives.

Both careers do attract a lot of people because they think it’ll be an easy way to earn money. Let me tell you, nothing could be further from the truth. Both blogging and network marketing take a lot of leg work, perseverance and self discipline, and a lot of time and energy before you start seeing paychecks, but if you’re willing to put in the hours it can be very rewarding.

I also really love food, and writing and talking about myself, so blogging is really an obvious career choice for me. And when Rachel and I learned that we could turn our love of food and travel and homemaking into an income, we couldn’t wait to get started.

As far as network marketing goes, I’ve grown up with Sunrider in my life and I have seen a lot of lives changed because of Sunrider’s products and business, and I want to help people change their lives too.

And so, what started as a crazy idea to find a way to talk about food has blossomed into a life-changing dream, and it’s full speed ahead from here on in.
